73rd International Forum of the Institute for Urban Humanities – Contradiction and Practice of Urban Utopia 

The Institute for Urban Humanities of the University of Seoul will host an international forum “Contradiction and practice of urban utopia: a comparative review of publicness in housing development in Berlin and Seoul”. This forum aims to open a field of discourses on the publicness of housing development by developing a comparative review of the production of urban spaces in two distinctive forms of market economy: socialist-and-neoliberalist combined market economy (Berlin) and developmentalist-and-neoliberalist combined market economy (Seoul). The questions guiding the forum revolve around what housing means and what it should be in contemporary urban societies. We expect that this forum can contribute to further discussion on the changing publicness and communality in human settlements in the twenty-first century by raising fundamental questions about the meaning of the production of urban space as a new utopian vision in the digital age.

This forum is held on Nov. 16. 2022 and English-Korean simultaneous interpretation is provided.
